“When I joined TRKBG, I just wanted to find friends that looked like me and experienced life through the same lens. And even then, I was still worried about fitting in or whether I would be “Black” enough—as if that were a thing. I hoped to find a friend. Literally, I would have been happy with just one new friend. After just a few months, I saw a difference in the way I walked and the way I talked. I was more motivated to take on challenges and push myself to achieve goals in areas I did not previously know about. In my search for friends, I gained a sisterhood and confidence. I even developed my leadership skills. I have been encouraged to grow and expand my knowledge base and business capacity within and outside of the TRKBG. Without this organization, I would still be afraid to step outside of my box and meet new people and accept myself fully for who I am”
